It is a pleasure for the team of Food and Ecological Systems Modelling Journal to welcome Prof. Ahmed MS Kheir as our newest subject editor.

Prof. Kheir is a Full Professor of Digital Agriculture at the Julius Kühn-Institut (JKI), Germany, and the Agricultural Research Center (ARC), Egypt. His research focuses on integrating machine learning, deep learning, remote sensing, and process-based crop models (DSSAT, APSIM, STICS, Hi-sAFe) to advance climate-smart agriculture, microclimate modeling, and spatial yield prediction.

He is ranked among the world's top 2% scientists , a recipient of the 2024 Shoman Prize, and an active contributor to AgMIP Wheat and AgMIP Machine Learning (AgML). He has authored over 80 peer-reviewed publications and led multiple international digital agriculture and climate resilience initiatives.

“I am very pleased to join FESMJ as a Subject Editor. My work over the past years has highlighted the critical role of integrated modeling—combining process-based models, remote sensing, and AI—in supporting sustainable food system planning. FESMJ provides an important platform for advancing these interdisciplinary methods, and I am excited to help promote high-quality research and strengthen the global modeling community,” he said.
